About

Port Hills Karate (PHK) was founded in 2015 by fourth degree black belt and former Karate New Zealand national team member, Dan Jakes.

In 2019 Tyrone Paton graduated to black belt at PHK after having trained for over two decades in various styles of karate, as well as other martial arts. Tyrone now runs the dojo with the help of Shaun Hardcastle, Bob Gordon and other senior club members. Dan continues to support in the background with gradings and technical coaching.

Tyrone is a dedicated and skilled instructor who likes to incorporate elements of other disciplines and is focussed on the practical application of karate as a martial art.
